Integration of PVT Data for enhanced interoperability: Loosely Coupled Technologies' Breakthrough with Stratum Reservoir

A Global Collaboration for Smarter Reservoir Data
When Emirates Link Stratum Reservoir LLC, a leading name in subsurface characterization and reservoir fluid analysis, sought to modernize its PVT (Pressure-Volume-Temperature) data processing, Loosely Coupled Technologies (LCT) partnered with them to design a scalable, intelligent, and interoperable system that could bring consistency and speed to one of the most data-intensive workflows in petroleum engineering.
Over two consecutive phases, LCT successfully delivered a full-featured PVT Calculator—a digital solution that transformed laboratory workflows, standardized data management, and enabled seamless integration with external systems such as ADNOC’s Data Submission Portal.
Phase 1 — Laying the Foundation for Digital PVT Processing
The first phase of the engagement (September 2020 – June 2021) focused on building the core computational and visualization capabilities of the PVT Calculator.
Key objectives included:
- Performing multi-test PVT calculations (Flash, CCE, Viscosity, Differential Liberation and Separation Tests).
- Generating complete PVT profiles and regression-based adjustments from raw reservoir data.
- Delivering standardized digital reports with automated quality checks and cross-sample validation.
Built on a Linux Server and Node.js backend with a custom Angular front-end, the system featured a proprietary regression library and interactive visualization components for accurate modeling.
The use of an on-device flat-file data format allowed scientists to securely share processed results while conforming to Stratum Reservoir’s data access policy.
The outcome was transformative—reporting time dropped from days to hours, and Stratum gained a unified digital framework for consistent, high-quality PVT reporting.
Stratum’s MEA Senior Technical Advisor, Bashar Qassim, commended the LCT team’s flexibility and technical depth, particularly in managing complex regression and visualization requirements.
Phase 2 — Integrating Workflows and Expanding Capabilities
Building on the strong foundation of Phase 1, the second phase (November 2021 – November 2022) expanded the solution into a fully interoperable system integrated with ADNOC’s data submission workflow.
This phase included:
- Integration with ADNOC Portal — automated Excel generation aligned to ADNOC’s submission specifications.
- OBM ( Oil Based Mud ) Correction Module — improving data purity through advanced impurity correction within Flash Tests.
- Gas Condensate Test Support — implementation of Gas CCE and CVD calculations.
- Regional Workflow Adaptation — custom configurations for Norway’s fixed-component Flash, DL and Separation Tests.
- Hosted Backend Environment for global availability and maintainability.
These advancements allowed Stratum Reservoir to achieve true interoperability across laboratories, regions, and clients—bridging digital reporting formats and data submission requirements without compromising accuracy or security.
Delivering Impact through Data Interoperability
Together, LCT and Stratum Reservoir demonstrated how complex scientific workflows can be digitized without losing the scientific rigor that underpins oil and gas data analysis.
Through custom engineering, predictive regression models, and seamless integration capabilities, the PVT Calculator now serves as a benchmark for standardized PVT data processing and cross-system interoperability.
The project’s success highlights LCT’s ability to merge scientific precision with modern software architecture, delivering tangible business benefits—from reduced turnaround time to enhanced data governance and global deploy ability.
